What is Recuperative Care?
Recuperative Care services are designed for eligible members of Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) who are homeless and need assistance to avoid hospitalization or recover from illness. These services provide medical and support care when clients are unable to recover in an unhoused or shelter environment. Currently, the reimbursement rate for these services is $300 per day.
What Do You Need to Start?
- Residence: Secure a residence to provide housing. Ensure compliance with local rental rules, building codes, and zoning regulations.
- Staffing: While you do not need to have staff in place before applying, eligible providers include:
- Registered Nurse
- Licensed Practical Nurse
- Case Manager
- Mental Health Counselor
- Social Worker
- Community Health Worker
- Provider Requirements: To qualify for reimbursement, complete and submit the Recuperative Care Provider Assurance Statement (DHS-8486). Your setting must provide:
- 24-hour access to a bathroom (including shower, sink, and toilet)
- 24-hour access to a bed
- Three meals per day
- Environmental services
- Access to a telephone
- A secure place to store the MHCP member’s belongings
- Wellness checks by staff as needed (at least once every 24 hours)
